On Friday, February 28, the 31st edition of the traditional mushing race Ledová jízda set off in the picturesque mountain setting of Pec pod Sněžkou. This legendary event, firmly established in the calendar of Czech mushing competitions, attracts experienced mushers as well as enthusiastic spectators every year, all eager to experience the atmosphere of a true winter challenge.
This year, we also have our own contender at the start – the team of Tomáš Voříšek, supported on cross-country skis by Anežka Voříšková and accompanied by the only team of Czech Mountain Dogs in the entire starting field. Ledová jízda is not just about speed. Above all, it is a test of endurance, teamwork between dog and musher, the ability to read the terrain, and to adapt to current snow conditions. The trails around Pec pod Sněžkou challenge not only physical fitness but also the mental resilience of the entire team.
Krkonoše Winter in Full Force
The race course traditionally leads through mountain terrain with a varied profile. Climbs alternate with technical descents, open windy sections, and forest passages where precise team handling is crucial. The Krkonoše winter can be unpredictable – and that is exactly what makes Ledová jízda a true challenge for the dogs, the musher, and the skier accompanying the team.
For us, this year’s edition carries even deeper meaning. Our Baileys Brdský expres supports the parent kennel Brdský expres and stands as the sole representation of a breed that carries the legacy of Czech mountain working heritage. Every kilometer on the trail is proof that the Czech Mountain Dog has its rightful place among sled dogs – and that it can stand proudly alongside the traditional Nordic breeds.
Keeping Our Paws Crossed
We wish the entire team steady nerves, confident handling, joy in movement, and a safe race from start to finish. Participation in this event is already a badge of success in itself – and we are proud to be part of it.
