At the Dědictví Athabasky kennel, we always try to choose equipment that truly works for our dogs. Whether it is racing, training, or everyday handling around the kennel and race venues, sled dogs need gear that is reliable, durable, and comfortable. Recently we started testing the ManMat Standard semi-slip collars, and they quickly proved to be a very practical part of our equipment.

A collar that makes sense for working dogs

For sled dogs, a semi-slip collar is a very practical solution. Putting it on and taking it off is quick and easy, which is especially useful when preparing a whole team before the start or handling dogs after finishing a race.

Thanks to the semi-slip design, the dog cannot easily back out of the collar, but at the same time it does not create unpleasant pressure. The collar tightens only slightly when needed and otherwise remains comfortable and loose.

This turns out to be a big advantage not only during races but also when handling dogs in the stake-out area, moving between start and finish zones, or during everyday training.

Useful not only for racing

Over the past months we have been using these collars in several situations:

  • preparing dogs at the start of races,

  • handling dogs between stages,

  • during training and regular walks,

  • and also in daily work at the kennel.

Their versatility is probably their biggest advantage. The collar is strong enough for sport use while still comfortable for everyday wear.

When you have a Czech dog, choose Czech production

For us, choosing equipment also has another dimension. The Czech Mountain Dog is a Czech national breed, so it feels natural to use equipment from a company that has long been connected with the mushing community here. ManMat is a well-known Czech manufacturer of mushing gear used by athletes around the world. That makes it even more satisfying to see their equipment working well with our own team.

When you have a Czech dog, it deserves honest Czech gear made for Czech mushers.
